Congratulations! I wish I had some additional insight, witty or otherwise, but I'm one of those that is figuring out I know nothing.

Julie: Congratulations on reaching 50. As nearly as I can recall, it's a good age. I don't think I'm as sure of things as you are except in the area of values. Not just ethical values but other values, like what kind of music you like. I'm as sure as ever that Mozart was a great composer, but I realize there are many others who disagree or simply don't care. I guess I approach various issues in life with varying degrees of confidence. I'm pretty sure the sun will rise in the East tomorrow, but if it rises in the West, it will simply reveal the limits of our scientific knowledge. However, I'm sure that the scientific method is the best way we have of establishing certainty about the physical world. About how to live, and how to find meaning in life, science is not quite so helpful. Anyway, not to imply that superior age equals superior judgment, but I have to say I've changed my mind on a lot of things since I was fifty ... but without admitting I was ever wrong in the first place. I think that's just part of living. At least it has been for me. Tom
