Well, not really. But with this whole blogging thing — there is a lot to learn! There is no end to the jargon. And what exactly do these people think “beginner” means? Even things that are supposed to be simple seem to assume that you already know quite a bit about how the internet works. But I have persisted, because I am dedicated to making this site more interesting and convenient for you, my readers.
I’m selfless, I know.
Anyway, I have studied a service called Feedburner and added it to the site. It has a lot of features, most of which I don’t really understand. However, it does provide you with a new option.
One thing that makes it hard to keep up with someone’s blog — or any website, really — is that you have to remember to go visit the site. I currently regularly follow about 20 sites, and I’m always finding new ones. You can put the links in your “favorites” but that list gets to be pretty long. Also, many sites don’t update all that often, so you can do a lot of checking and find nothing new — or rarely check and then find a whole lot of new stuff that you would have liked to read sooner.
Well, now you have two options to make this simpler. If you just want to keep up with updates to Celera’s Cabin, you can use the link on the left that says “Click here to get new posts by email.” You will have to do a couple of simple verification steps, and then you should get an email every time something new is posted here. No email — no need to stop by (unless you just want to re-read the old stuff.)
But, if you are like me, and follow more than a small number of sites, this may get to be kind of a nuisance. We all get plenty of email spam as it is. In that case, if you haven’t already, look into a feed-reader. I use one called Bloglines, but there are lots of others out there. Google and AOL both offer similar services, I think, and they are pretty easy to use. If you have set up a service like this for yourself, you can subscribe to this site, and many others, by clicking the little orange button over on the left.
So much for administration. I’ll be back soon with more of the usual stuff.
